Sports Vision FAQs

Advantage Eyecare.com Sports Vision FAQs

When most people think of caring for their bodies, especially for those who are involved in athletics of any sort, they primarily think of problems having to do with muscles and bones. Unfortunately, there is one area that practically no one thinks of, but without it, there could probably be very little athletics, at least as we think of it. That is eye care. That's why it is so important to remember Advantage Eyecare in North Richland Hills. At Advantage Eyecare we do optometry the way the best athletes do it, with all the attention it deserves in the performance of sports. What follows are a few questions and answers to some of the most common issues related to eye care for athletes.

Q:  What's so unusual about the eye care needs of athletes that it deserves a special place in optometry care?

A:  Regardless of the athletic pursuit, an athlete's eyes get a vigorous workout. In fact, in athletics, the eyes are used more often and to a much greater extent than any everyday use in office, home, or other surroundings. Eye injuries, such as being hit by a ball, are also more common to athletes, which requires more preventive measures as well as treatment.

Q:  What about eye exams and other common treatments?  Should an athlete have their eyes checked more often:

A:  Eye exams for athletes are much the same as for any other person.  As far as the frequency of those exams, the extensive use of eyes and the possibility of injury should cause an athlete to have their eyes examined more often than others.

Q:  What should an athlete do if they suspect that they have a problem with their eyes, whether that problem was caused by their athletic life or not?

A:  Anytime that anyone, athlete or not, suspects that they have an eye problem, they should see an optometrist as soon as possible. Eye care often requires the services of several different types eye care professionals, but an optometrist is a great place to start.

Q:  Why is seeing a sports-specialized optometrist so important?

A:  A sports-specialized optometrist such as those at Advantage Eyecare in North Richland Hills has the education as well as the experience to deal with a wide variety of eye problems that are most common with athletes. Not only can we diagnose eye problems, but we can also create eyewear that is specific to the needs of an individual athlete as well as the sport that he or she plays.
